Las Canas

We were driving through the state and wanted to grab a snack. We drove through downtown West Point but since it was Sunday, there wasn't much going on. We eventually saw an open sign lit up in the window of Las Cañas so we decided to stop and check it out. What a place! Some of the items in the general store portion were so old, maybe 20 years old or more, that the packaging was yellowed and very dirty. It was a wonderful assortment of Mexican wears; saddles, boots, prayer candles, pan dulce, ceramics... And in the back was the kitchen. The kitchen makes a limited menu of home style fair including street style tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and tortas. We had a couple carnitas tacos and a chorizo quesodilla, both were excellent! The star was the red salsa that is made in house. I had to convince them, but they sold me a pint of it to go. Smoky, sweet, spicy and fresh!!! What a hoot and what a flavor treat! When your driving through, be sure and stop!!!

Ok, you are going to think I’m crazy for giving this place five stars but hang in here with me. When you walk up, this place looks sketchy. It’s a cramped Mexican store, and it looks run down. Worn holes in the floor, the lights out in the front. But the place is very clean. Lots of unusual and cool items. Great prices too. But walk all the way back, and the “restaurant “ is there. It’s just a counter that you walk up to and order. They have 10 to 12 tables. There is only five or six items on the menu. And lots of Mexican drinks in the cooler to choose from. But once you’ve took your first bite you will see, oh my goodness…..heaven. I had the burrito and my husband had the torta. Both made with asada, that’s steak for us gringos. There is a salsa bar, and do try them all. We were the only gringos there. Lots of Mexicans there, and that will tell you something. Our bill was only $22!!! Incredible for how delicious it was. West Point is a bit of a drive for us, but we will be back.

I went to Las Canas on April 25 with family members and we were very impressed. The gentleman who took our order was very courteous and very knowledgeable about the menu as we told him it was our first time at the restaurant and what he might suggest. We had nachos, burritos, and tacos and all were as delicious as the other. Very authentic Mexican food! And they have a salsa bar where you could get a wide variety of condiments to add a little extra spice to your food if you like. Very spacious dining area as we counted 44 seats available for guests. And the restaurant was very clean and well kept. .The prices were also very practical for the food you received I will definitely visit there again and would recommend it to friends and to you.

The restaurant is now on the corner, with its own entrance. Delicious, fresh food at a reasonable price with friendly service. What more can you ask?! Although the Nachos Supreme are excellent, try the Molcahete (carne asada & nopales) for authentic Mexican cuisine - and it's enough to serve two. With an extensive list of liquors, it appears they also serve every known type of margarita. It's definitely our go-to for Mexican food - and worth the drive!

Google Maps didn’t show this place as a restaurant, but saw the Las Canas restaurant sign on the corner and thought we would try it. We were made our way to the cafe counter in the back of the grocery store and initially we were reluctant to order, but decided to give it a try. WOW! What great food. We had a chicken Quesadilla & two beef tacos. We complemented the staff and were told they were going to open a full service restaurant next door soon.

Authentico! Reasonably priced , and large portions , shredded beef burrito supreme and they have a mini salsa bar , so you can spice it up any way you like ,, mild green salsa , or go BOLD and heat things up inferno ! With their Habanero and onion relish. Friendly and family owned and operated .Totally recommend Las Canas .

So nice inside and everyone was so friendly. We ordered street tacos and I've got to say they're some of the best I've ever tasted

The restaurant is in the back. No frills, not a large menu, but what they make is delicious and there is plenty of it. People were very nice. It looks like a small town storefront, but the sign above clearly states Mexican market and restaurant.
